Tournament News
 Spring/Summer of 2001

     On April 7th Lenny Young held his 2001 Spring Karate Tournament in Bellfonte, Pa. Goshin was well represented and Grand Master Joe Brague received the Team Trophy. Black Belt Winners that day were: Paula Schall placed First in both Forms and Weapons. Gary Stebbins won  First Place in Heavyweight Kumite as well as Grand Champion in Kumite. Ron Wright took first place in Empty Hand Forms, a Second in Weapons and a Second in Kumite. Jerry French took 3 Second places in Forms, Weapons, and Kumite in the Senior Black Belt division.


   Kyu rank winnings at Lenny Young's are as follows: Grand Master Brague's Dojo: Lorin Cooper captured 2 first places in Kumite and Forms in Children's Green Belt . Micheal Sheets took second in Forms and a Fourth in Kumite in Childrens Yellow Belt.
   Jeff Bell's Dojo: Bill Erb placed First in Forms and 2 Second Places in Breaking and Kumite in Adult White Belt Division. Jacob Bell captured 2 Second Palces in Forms and Kumite in Children's Yellow Belt. Jesse Bell took 2 First Places in Forms And Kumite in the same division.
    Jerry Lepley's Dojo was also represented by: Megan Donahen won a first place in Kumite in childrens Yellow Belt division. Melissa Hall captured first place in Kumite in Childrens White Belt. Damion Mariano won a Third in Weapons and a second in Kumite in Childrens Purple Belt Division. Luke Mariano won the First in Kumite in same division. Logan Mariano captured a Frist Place in Forms and a Second in Kumite also in the Childrens Purple  Belt Division.
   Clair Black's Dojo was represented by Amanda Snavely in Womens Brown Belt who captured Second in Fighting and a Third in Empty Hand Forms.



   On Sunday May 6th Goshin Karate participated in Nenow Dynasty Karate Championships in Leighton , Pa. Master George Bierman took First Place in Forms and Weapons as well as Grand Champion of Forms for Black Belt Division. Donald Justice II won Second Place in forms and Kumite and a Third in Weapons competition in the Youth 12-13 Black Belt division. Brandon Schneider from Grand Master Brague's dojo took a fourth place in the 10-12 White Belt Division in Empty Hand Forms.



On Sunday June 17th Goshin Karate was represented at the Master's Cup at Scranton University, PA. Black Belt Karen Black Placed Fourth in Executive Weapons and Third in Empty Hand Forms. She also placed Second in Womens Black Belt Sparring. Amanda Snavely from Clair Black's Dojo placed Second in  both Empty Hand Forms and Sparring in Advanced Youth Division.

On Saturday June 9th George Bierman was inducted into his Fourth Hall of Fame in Liverpool, NY. He was inducted alongside of such Martial Arts Greats as David Caradine, Don Wilson, Cythia Rothrock and Many others. He was also recently appointed to the Board of the WKU (World Karate Union) and a director of IMAC (International Martial Arts College).


 
 

************ Master George Bierman wins in Russia************







George Bierman won again this year in the Sixth International Martial Arts " Free Russia" Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia the First week of May, 2001. More than 2,500 competitors participated in this festival which is equivalent to the world championships in other sports. George was a member of the United States Team which captured 12 gold medals. George sais he was speechless when he was met at the airport in Russia with the Tournament poster bearing his picture. 
   Master Bierman won three gold medals in Long Forms Weapons as well as Short Form Weapons. He also won Gold in Empty Hand Forms. He did not participate this year in Team Competition but captured a Bronze Medal in Individual Fighting. 
 George has said it is time for him to "go out on top" and retire from competing and redirect his energy into instructing others and become a Team Representitive next year in Russia.
