Recent News
 Winter/Spring of 2002
On Monday January 14th Goshin Karate was host to Nikolai Smirnov from St. Petersburg, Russia where Nikolai is President of  I. M. A .C. (International Martial Arts College). The I. M. A. C.  has hosted the World Games for Martial Arts for the last 10 years. This is the most prestegious and largest International Martial Arts Tournament in the world.
Nikolai Smirnov an 8th Degree Black Belt was a guest instructor to Grand Master Joe Brague's Class at the Y.W.C.A., Williamsport, Pa . Even though  it was a snowy evening many turned out to meet  Master Smirnov and learn. Master Smirnov's style concentrates on "real" street fighting techniques. Instruction was very informative as well as challenging to all who participated. While Nikolai was in the area he resided with Master George Bierman who has visited Russia and previously competed at the World Games. George is now a Board Member of  I. M. A. C.
Thank you Nikolai for spending some time with us.

SCHOOLS TRY FUNDRAISERS

Schools belonging to Master Clair Black and Master Jeff Bell are trying a fund raising program by Hersheys Chocolate to help their students overcome financial shortcomings.
With so many tournaments to fund some families get short on cashflow quicky so some families have to be selective. Now with fundraisers the students can earn extra money to buy gear or save up for the tournament entrance fees. Master Clair Black and his wife, Master Karen Black tried the fund raising last year and found it to be  a positive addition to their school. At the end of the year all the extra funds were pooled together and the students voted to use the funds for the dojo. New mats were purchased to the benefit of everyone.
Master Jeff Bell has joined in this year. Anyone who wants the information contact any of these Masters. We'll keep you updated how it goes this year.

Black Belt Fighting Club

The Black Belt Club was established in order to offer Black Belts of all styles the opportunity to improve their free-sparring ability by sparring martial artists representing a wide variety of styles.
Founded in 2001 by Gary Stebbins, 3rd Dan Goshin Jutsu and K.C. Lyons, Kung Fu Sifu.
The club has gained in popularity. The Club has a current membership of 25 Black Belts.
The focus of the Club is light contact point style sparring. The setting is informal, with no judges and no scorekeeping. The emphasis is on learning - not on competing.  The exposure to different fighting styles, techniques and concepts has been beneficial to all involved.
The Club is open to all black belt of all styles who are interested in improving their sparring techniques. The Club meets from 2 - 4 PM on the first Sunday of each month : November to April at the YMCA in the Aerobic Room in Williamsport, PA. There is no membership fee. However, the YMCA charges $3.00 fee. If there are any questions e-mail Gary Stebbins at :
